Breathing new life into a summery classic, Oliver Heldens has joined forces with Shantel for the infectious “Bucovina 2023.”
Heldens is still buzzing off his early-2023 single “Sound of Vondel,” as well as his progressive remix of Depeche Mode’s “Speak To Me” under his techno alias, HI-LO. Out now via his own Heldeep Records imprint, “Bucovina 2023” finds the Dutch superstar tap back into his melodic sensibilities and serves as yet another testament to his versatility as a producer.
Shantel, an artist renowned for his DJing, remixing and fusion of traditional Balkan melodies with electronic rhythms, dropped “Bucovina” back in 2008, resulting in a sensational dance hit that gained popularity across Europe. Seamlessly blending Ukrainian folk and Balkan styles, the original track is a take on the 1930s classic “Black But Sweet” by prominent Calypso artist Wilmoth Houdini.
“Bucovina 2023” maintains the original’s vibrant instrumentation while making for an irresistible summer jam. With a touch of Latin house vibes, Heldens and Shantel have released a track that’s bound to ignite any dancefloor with its organic grooves and warm basslines.
