The head of the city administration of Energodar in the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine, Andriy Shevchik, was injured in the explosion, reports “RIA News» with reference to a source in emergency services.
A TASS source in local law enforcement agencies specified that, in addition to the mayor of Energodar, two of his guards were injured in the explosion. He said that the explosion occurred in the entrance of the house when Shevchik was leaving.
“A self-made directional explosive device was planted in the electrical switchboard of the entrance of the house”,— a TASS source said, adding that the head of the city had been repeatedly threatened by the Ukrainian side.
The Russian military reported that they took Energodar under control on February 28. At the same time, it was also reported that Berdyansk was taken, as well as the territory around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Later, the Russian military took control of the Azov part of the Zaporozhye region, as a result of which Ukraine was completely cut off from the Sea of Azov.
RBC sent a request to the Russian Ministry of Defense and the administration of Energodar.
Most mayors of Ukrainian cities that came under the control of Russian troops left or were replaced by more pro-Russian ones. In particular, the mayor of Energodar Dmitry Orlov refused to cooperate with the Russian military. After that, a “public council for the self-organization of the city” was created in the city. It was headed by the deputy of the City Council from the Opposition Platform for Life Andriy Shevchik, who simultaneously works as a leading engineer at the Zaporozhye NPP.
