deadmau5 was letting the frenzied rhythms flow in his latest at-home DJ set.
It was an experimental two-hour session for the electronic music icon, who decided to record a drum & bass-centered live performance on Pioneer DJ CDJs, a live setup he notably hasn't leveraged historically despite it being something of an industry standard.
But the change in hardware wasn't the primary draw for fans of this particular performance. Amid a stateside surge in popularity for drum & bass music in 2023, deadmau5 shared with the world a slew of tracks that have been striking his fancy as of late. Bookending his set with cuts from Enei, Xaetis, Mozey and more, the performance showed a different side to the influential "Strobe" producer unlike anything fans have seen previously.
Across the festival circuit and on social media, drum & bass is showing signs of an early boom cycle. Chris Goss, co-founder of the legendary Hospital Records imprint, told us in April it's his belief that the genre is on the precipice of another mainstream explosion in popularity.
