Why are flights often canceled and delayed at Moscow airports?
Frequent delays and cancellations of flights in Moscow are connected with the introduction of Western sanctions against Russia, writes RIA Novosti. Against the backdrop of military events in Ukraine, the European Union announced a ban on the supply of civil aircraft and spare parts to Russia, and instructed lessors to break contracts with Russian airlines until the end of March.
Restrictions also affected aircraft maintenance and insurance services for domestic airlines. In addition, the European Union, the USA, Canada and a number of other countries closed the airspace for Russian airliners.
Rosaviatsia, in turn, in order to avoid the arrest or detention of aircraft registered abroad and belonging to foreign lessors, recommended that Russian carriers with aircrafts in foreign registries suspend international flights.
